A good dose of iodised fantasy

A 19th-century residence on the port of Le Pouliguen, where a team of enthusiasts love to please without taking themselves too seriously, under the amused gaze of the shooting thons-thons illustrated on the walls. Nautical bistro, seaside brasserie, marine canteen, marine table, iodised HQ · everyone finds their own spot here.

The name is a tribute to Jules Sandeau, author of La Roche aux Mouettes, who frequented Le Pouliguen for 16 years and set the action of his novel there. The literary and maritime spirit blends with a colourful decor · purple sofas, red ceiling, palm trees, old illustrated tins above the bar. A true identity, to which one quickly becomes attached.

Oysters Le Strat, mussels and fries, catch of the day

The menu highlights the sea · grilled, snacked, in small fry, marinated or as tartare. The oysters come from Le Strat (Morbihan) and are served with Beillevaire butter. Also on the menu · seafood platters, mussels and fries, grilled catch of the day, fresh scallop skewers, fried smelts, and even an original black burger with salmon.

On the drink side, a selection of regional and organic wines that accompany the marine flavours without overwhelming them. Expect 30-45 € per person depending on the formula (seafood platter obviously higher). The establishment is open every day, all year round, from 10:00 to 23:00 · a rarity for a restaurant of this quality on the coast.

Antonin's advice

« One of my reference brasseries on the peninsula. The dozen oysters + glass of muscadet for lunch on the terrace facing the port · nothing much better to do. My favourites · the seafood platter, the fried smelts (the authentic one). The slightly crazy decor adds a lot to the experience. Book for summer weekends. »

· Antonin, host of L'Écrin des Nymphes
