A shop full of temptations
On rue Saint-Michel, one of the liveliest streets in Guérande intra-muros, Kouign Bihen · also known as Le Comptoir du Chien Assis · is one of the must-visit sweet spots in the medieval town. The red and grey facade is hard to miss.
Inside, you stroll between the wooden displays filled with treats: warm kouign-amann, palets bretons, galettes, and a whole range of salted butter caramels, freshly baked biscuits, barley sugars, and traditional sweets.
A mountain of delicacies artfully stacked sits at the centre of the shop. The smell of butter and warm caramel is enough to convince the undecided.
Fruit jellies, nougats, calissons
Alongside the biscuits, a sweets display showcases colourful fruit jellies (quince, raspberry, apricot, kiwi), nougats, chocolates, and the entire range of sweets that one loves to take home.
Neatly presented, warm lighting, reminiscent of a traditional sweet shop: the boutique is an attraction in itself during a visit to Guérande. Ideal for creating a gift basket or simply filling a bag for the journey.

Antonin's advice
“My favourite stop when I visit Guérande with friends. I start at the ramparts, walk down rue Saint-Michel, stop by Kouign Bihen for a bag of salted butter caramels, and then continue to the collegiate church. The quince-raspberry fruit jellies are to die for. Make sure to come early in the morning during the peak season: the street fills up quickly.”
